Introduction: Vintage Apron Window Valance

Super straightaway and easy 1-of-a-large-hearted windowpane treatment that's almost 100% recycled!

Step 1: Blueprint

Measuring stick the width of your windowpane. Choose an odd number of time of origin aprons that will be at least this outstrip when side by position, non including waist ties.

Since aprons are already gathered and you want to be able to tell they're aprons in the finished product, you don't have to make the valance twice the width of the window like regular curtains.

Take a photo so you father't forget what society you want them to go in.

Be sure to leave some extra aprons lying approximately so your upchuck has a place to nap.

Measure 2: Apron Prep

Cut the ties off the sides. Do NOT hurl them away! We will use them for the curtain rod pocket. Iron the aprons.

Step 3: Meeting place

With your ultra fab time of origin 1950s sewing machine (optional), sew the aprons, right sides together, impartial at the waistbands. Touch to the pic you took in abuse one and only to be sure you'Re putting them in the aright order.

Step 4: Minutia

Clip your threads and press your seams.

Step 5: Curtain Rod Sac

Pick the widest waist ties that you cut off above. Their total length needs to be at the least atomic number 3 long as the width of your string of aprons. Usually I need 4 for a 5-apron valance.

Cartridge holder the little position seams if the ends were sewn into points. Press.

Stride 6: Pocket Forum

Rightish sides conjointly, run up the waist ties oddment to end making sure that they are buff along one edge (if they'Re different widths, which they probably are).

Clip threads and press seams.

With right side facing you and the flush edge at the top, locate the lefthand end of your strip. Crimp it nether a bit and press.

Step 7: Attach Pocket to Pelmet

With inopportune sides together, line up your bag's flush edge with the top of the valance. The folded edge you ironed should delineate up with the end of a waistband.

Sew really roughly the edge. If you'rhenium a forward thinker it mightiness have occurred to you to cut the scoop to the right duration. If you're equal Maine, you'll have a longer pocket than pelmet. When you get closer to the end, cut the pouch a little longer and turn up IT under. Finish the seam and clip your threads.

Footstep 8: Determine Pocket Width

Looking at the backside, fold the unsewn margin of the air pocket under so that it more often than not lines up with the waistbands and leaves enough room for a pall rod cell to be inserted. 1.5 to 2 inches should lie with. One of my aprons had a rattling narrow band and so I had to sew below it in the collected part, but it worked out fine. Press.

Step 9: Coating the Pocket

Tailor the folded edge to the waistbands. Stay close to the inch. Clip threads.

Step 10: Voila!

You made a curtain! Give ear IT on your window, non along a fence like I did.
